Rental Guide: Rules, Guidelines, and Policy
PARKING/ARRIVAL
We have sleds at the cabin to help transport your groceries and other items when the snow is deep enough that you need to walk to the top of the hill. It is 50 steps from the parking lot to the front door. Park as close as you can to the cabin. When you pull into the parking lot, look left, and you will see the cabin.
WATER ON/OFF SWITCH
There is a water ON/OFF switch located next to the hot water heater on the wall in the utility room. This is a shutoff valve that controls all water to the cabin. Turn it on upon arrival and turn it off before you leave. Please ensure the water switch is turned off when you leave.
FIRE-PIT
There is a fire-pit in the parking lot, which is the only designated area for outside fires. There is wood in the shed for your use; please use it sparingly. Be mindful of fire danger. You must provide your own ax/hatchet if you choose to chop wood. Remember, using the firewood, fire-pit, and woodstove is at your own risk, and we assume no liability. We do not provide an ax or saw for firewood. Bring an ax if you want to chop wood for a fire inside or outside.
WALKING PATH
There is a walking path that starts at the rear of the cabin by the shed and travels west toward the property line fence poles. The Crown Point multi-use trail is about 2 minutes down the walking path and travels along the lake for about 2 miles in each direction. You can see the lake from the trail. There is a cove and beach for fishing or swimming.
KEEP OUT
Please stay out from under the cabin. There are electrical wires, plumbing, building supplies, and other hazards. Your signed agreement places all liability on the renter.
TRASH
There is no trash service; you are required to take your trash out with you.
COLD WEATHER
Please leave the upstairs bathroom door open when not in use, especially when you leave, to allow heat to enter the bathroom and prevent the pipes from freezing. Open the vanity doors in the bathrooms and the cupboard doors in the kitchen to allow heat to circulate and prevent pipes from freezing.
The woodstove works well for heating the cabin. If you turn the vents on both sides of the woodstove down to under half after the cabin is warm, the wood will last longer, and the cabin won’t get too hot.
Leave the electric heaters as you found them during cold weather. We set them to keep the cabin around 50 degrees. Leave the electric heater in the living room, the wall heater in the kitchen under the window, and both heaters in the downstairs bathrooms on. Close all bedroom doors and make sure the heaters are off in the bedrooms when you leave.
WARM WEATHER
The cabin does not have air conditioning, as is common in the area. Leave the windows open at night to cool things off and close them during the day to keep cool. Leave the ceiling fan in the living room on high. The control is next to the downstairs bedroom doorway. Fans in each room can fit on the window ledge; turn them on after it cools down to cool the room.
BOATS AND WATERCRAFT
You can leave your boat parked during the day or overnight at the cove, which is a 2-minute walk from the cabin. This is public Bureau of Reclamation land. Store or leave your boat there at your own risk, though people do leave boats there overnight regularly.
NOT ALLOWED / KEEP OUT / PRIVATE ITEMS
The closet under the stairs in the downstairs bedroom is locked with our personal belongings; please do not open it.
NO SMOKING ON OR WITHIN 100′ OF PROPERTY – NO EXCEPTIONS
NO PETS ON THE PREMISES – NO EXCEPTIONS
Violation of any of the Terms & Conditions will incur a $500 per infraction fee
COLD WEATHER CHECKLIST WHEN LEAVING/CHECKING OUT
Please follow these directions closely to prevent frozen pipes and ensure we can refund your cleaning deposit:
- Shut off the water in the utility room near the hot water heater. Flip the switch down/off. This is very important!
- Open the cupboards under all sinks: the bathroom upstairs, the two bathrooms downstairs, and the kitchen sink. This will allow warm air to circulate to the pipes to prevent freezing.
- Leave the upstairs bathroom door open.
- Close all bedroom doors.
- Leave the 4 electric heaters on, all located downstairs. Set the 2 baseboard heaters to half (one in the kitchen under the window and one in the living room under the window). Set the 2 bathroom heaters to about a quarter. They are marked with a blue pen. Leave the shower door open in the utility room bathroom and ensure the heater is set to a quarter turn, as marked.
- Shut the utility room door and the kitchen door leading to the utility room.
- Do not lock any screen doors or interior doors.
